Read all About Detox Diet

Detox is short for detoxification. The detox diet will help you to remove any potentially harmful or toxic substances from your body. The concept of detox tends to refer to alcohol or drug dependence treatment, but it is also used as a method of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body as well.

There are various versions of detox diets available. Many are very drastic requiring twice a week colon cleansing and eating only those foods that are believed to eliminate toxins from the body. They are also designed to support and protect the liver, which is the main organ the body uses for natural detoxification.

Many detox diets begin with a detox screening quiz. These quizzes are designed to help you become more familiar with possible toxins you may have in your body. Also, many alternative health practitioners believe that individuals who suffer from adrenal fatigue should not use a detox diet because it could make the condition worse. Therefore, it is a good idea to take an adrenal fatigue quiz as well. Adrenal fatigue is the result of prolonged stress and this condition should be treated prior to detox.

A general and short detox diet typically provides the dieter with a minimized amount of ingested chemicals through foods. For instance, people eat organic instead of other foods that may contain pesticides or hormones. The diet tends to emphasize foods that provide an abundance of vitamins and nutrients, as well as antioxidants. The body utilizes these for detoxification. These diets also contain foods that are high in water and fiber, as they help to draw out and eliminate toxins due to the increase in bowel movements and urination caused by them.

More and more people are utilizing detox diets because of the chemicals and toxins we eat are exposed to on a daily basis. These chemicals and toxins become deposited into the fat cells in our bodies and a diet that lacks certain vitamins and nutrients may impair our body’s natural ability to detoxify itself. This causes toxins to keep building up in the body. This “body burden” is believed to be the cause of many illnesses, impaired immune system function, nutritional deficiencies, inefficient metabolism and hormonal imbalance. Typical signs of toxicity include bad breath, fatigue, indigestion, muscle pain and poor skin.

People who have gone through detox diets have reported improvement in all of these areas. They also report that they have regular bowel movements, increased concentration and clarity after a detox diet as well.
