- Gate has secure locks and needs no repair.
- Examine the shed, fences, awnings, decks, and pergola for avoiding hazards like dropping boards or tripping.
- Keep hazardous materials like paint, weed killer, pesticides, fertilizers, etc. locked. Secure the landscaping tools and lock trimmers, lawnmowers, etc.
- Prune trees and plants to avoid helping potential robbers hide.
- Secure small entrances like pet doors and mail slots.
Hallway checklist
- Check carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
- Secure the rugs.
- Add nightlights.
Living room & bedroom checklist
- Create an emergency escape plan and run drills. Be prepared for incidents like fire or earthquake, tornado, or flood.
- Check the switch plates & outlet covers.
- Invest in a fireproof safe.
- Inspect walls and repair the tears or holes.
Bathroom checklist
- Inspect the plumbing and fixtures.
