It’s no denying that the year 2020 saw a large no. of people working from home. And, it’s likely to remain until the vaccination process gets completed in every country globally. Likewise, most of the companies are promoting the concept of work from home. So, it’s likely to get better in the year 2021.
Following are some key developments in the concept of work from home:
More focus on facial expressions in a video call
Video calling was widely used in the year 2020 in which more than 30 million meetings were held daily in April itself through Zoom which is a limited way of communication. This is the reason why some Tech companies are trying to find new ways of engaging people during work from home such as Nvidia which focuses more on facial expressions during their video calls. Here, ignoring the background reduces the bandwidth of the call forcing the people to focus on the other person’s body language and facial expressions improving the emotional bondage.
Virtual Office Space
VR (virtual reality) is undergoing rapid work in the Oculus Rift and Facebook’s Infinitive Office project. Virtual office space is being created in these projects. Things will be cleaner and organized in this virtual office. Facebook also wants to include AR (Augmented Reality) with it. This will allow companies in conducting meetings where physical distance can be maintained.
Meanwhile, Professor Ana Curros of Stanford University stated that more and more companies are promoting work from home, but the employees want more interaction. Now, that is exactly what virtual reality would do by increasing the sense of closeness and collaboration amongst the employees.
Increasing focus on health
The year 2020 was also when employees were given a great amount of importance. Likewise, employers believed that productivity and employee health are closely related. Therefore, they want to make sure that employees stay happy and mentally healthy even if they are working from home.
Meanwhile, in its annual report, The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development claimed that almost 89 percent of people worked in the year 2020 despite being sick and around 73 percent worked more than their work schedule. But, now the companies are looking to change this scenario.
Emphasis on both automation and skill
Likewise, most of the experts believe that in the year 2021, most employees would work with automation besides strengthening their human skills. Now, the companies would work as per the future workforce. It’s worth mentioning that many schools around the world like those in Barcelona and Toronto are trying to humanize their curriculum as per the requirements of the working world. Where projects are given to students as per their interest instead of some rote learning courses. This learning has been named Liquid learning.
